An island to discover
In ancient times, the island was called Therasia. It later took the name Hiera, because it was sacred to the god Vulcan; hence its current name: Vulcan. According to Greek mythology, this island was home to the Forges of Hephaestus, the god of fire and blacksmith whose assistants were the Cyclopes, whom the Romans called Vulcan, the name later given to the island.
Over the years, the volcano has never ceased to demonstrate its vitality. Even today, various phenomena can be observed: bubbling fumaroles amidst a sea of sulfurous mud, renowned for its therapeutic properties.

The island is beautiful to visit, both by land and sea. Don't miss the thermal mud pool, bathing in its warm waters, heated by hot gases escaping from the seabed, and the Black Sands Beach, equipped with tourist facilities.
Finally, the climb to the crater, where, once you reach the top, you can enjoy a spectacular view that will transport you to a surreal world. But only by boat can you access the most beautiful spots: the Grotta del Cavallo, the Piscina di Venere, the beaches to the south, and the numerous coves to the west.
