Salina
SAILING HOLIDAYS
A nature reserve
Lush Salina is the greenest of the islands, famous for its Nature Reserve that occupies much of its territory: the ancient Didyme (twin), a name derived from the island's shape: two hills separated by a saddle. The taller of Salina's two mountains, Monte Fossa delle Felci (962 meters), hosts a beautiful fern forest within its cone, while Monte Porri (860 meters) is home to the Eleonora's Falcon.
The current name derives from a small coastal lake located in Lingua which was once used as a “Salina”.
Salina is full of enchanting places, Rinella with its black caves transformed into boat shelters or Pollara with its abandoned fishermen's houses.
AN ENCHANTING PLACE
The island of Salina
Santa Marina is the island's tourist port. Modern and functional, it offers paid mooring, assistance, water, electricity, and restroom services. Upon arriving in Santa Marina, you can admire the magnificent 18th-century church with its distinctive bell towers.
Continuing past Malfa, you can admire the "Perciato," a striking volcanic rock arch. It's said to be one of the most beautiful places in the world, where the sun turns fiery red and sets next to the islands of Filicudi and Alicudi.
Capo Faro, located between Malfa and Santa Marina, is a small hamlet characterized by a high cliff overlooking the sea and topped by a lighthouse. Here you'll find yourself surrounded by Malvasia vineyards. Salina is also famous for another product: Salina capers, a Slow Food Presidium.
